The Anapata Diversity Scholars Program

Anapata is proud to award scholarships to talented law students from across the nation. Factors considered in the selection process include academic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability, excellent writing and interpersonal skills and a sincere interest in promoting diversity in the legal profession. Irma Khoja (Spring 2010 Scholarship Winner)

"Our discipline is fundamentally unique in that it not only governs the way people behave, but also affects the way they think. Diversity in thought brought about women's rights, it also brought desegregation, and it continues to bring new ways to protect the environment. Transformations in the law have occurred and continue to occur because the individuals have a vision that is different from the norm.

Finally, the legal profession can promote and embrace diversity by showcasing successful minority attorneys. This can be done on firm websites as well in-house electronic newsletters. Having stories written about such attorneys will change the misconceptions employers may have about minorities and encourage them to actively reach out to their own employees to give them the recognition they deserve."

"During my time along the border with Mexico, I witnessed how poor environmental conditions magnified the effects of poverty.... The region's lack of available internet access and other technology actually perpetuated the dire economic and environmental conditions. For example, students and their families often were not aware of the major legal initiatives and educational opportunities that could improve of at least impact their lives."
